O.N.E. Member's Only Event: Stories for the Solstice

hearth+fire.jpg

At this coming Solstice time, O.N.E. Visioning Council member, April Thanhauser invites the O.N.E. members and affiliates to circle around and listen to stories of the Sun. When the time between sunrise and sunset is so short let us come together and celebrate the light through traditional Earth tales and myths.

Can we remember, with the wisdom of our ancestors, how in times of darkness we can cajole, or trick, or coax forth the life-giving force of Light? Can we offer sufficient gratitude to keep the sun coming back? Somehow it is by the soft light of hearth fires, when the long nights bring the gift of sparkling stars, and perhaps the cold brings us to huddle together, that the best stories have been told. April will tell three tales from ancient sources on our live teleseminar, after which listeners are encouraged to share comments, inspirations, and wonderings about the Dark and the Light.

About April

April has been a life-long lover of myth and fairytale. Her college studies of comparative religion took her deep into mythic realms and the search for the common wisdom in diverse traditions. She became a follower of the Sufi path brought to the West by Hazrat Inayat Khan, which embraces the unity of religious ideals. Finding the sacred stories of many cultures is a continuing passion for her. She has discovered that sparks from the light of the sacred traditions can be found in folk and fairy tales, and the magic of these stories can lead us into the vaster parts of ourselves, as well as simply guiding us in compassionate right action.

April has brought the enchantment of storytelling into many years of work in early childhood education, arts education and marionette-troupe performance. She tells tales at festivals and gatherings to honor the seasons. She likes to stay as true as possible to traditional forms of the stories, resisting the Disney tendency to modernize. At the same time, she recognizes the painful flaws in the world view of many of our iconic tales (eg the wickedness of wolves) and is working with how to bring greater sensitivity into the telling, as well as finding stories that can soften and challenge our attitudes. She is on a mission to seek stories from world cultures that can inform and be transformed by our New Story, of who we are and who we are becoming in the great pattern of Creation.

Call-in information will be sent to O.N.E. members and affiliates in the days before the event. If you have not already signed up, follow the link below to become a member.
